National Public Radio (NPR)’s “All Things Considered” featured an in-depth story on health care reform in which they interviewed Impact Makers’ client Sheryl Garland about the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and the Virginia Coordinated Care program. Impact Makers Principal Consultant Ben Smith is actively supporting the Coordinated Care program and many other efforts that Sheryl is responsible for at the health system.
The NPR feature story looked at whole patient health initiatives in Virginia and California and focused on the VCU Health System’s Complex Care Clinic which is helping 400 patients with the worst medical conditions via a team-based care approach, involving doctors, pharmacists, nurses, etc. The program has achieved better health results for those patients while reducing the overall health care costs.
