Impact Makers’ Vice President of Business Strategy Rodney Willett and Marketing Director Graham Sellors met with a social entrepreneurship class at the University of Virginia recently in Charlottesville. They presented an overview of the Impact Makers’ story to the class and then responded to a range of questions including the details of the company’s recent gifting of its ownership to two nonprofits and what were the personal motivations for Rod and Graham to join Impact Makers.
The students, mostly undergraduates, are enrolled in the Experiential Social Entrepreneurship class taught by Christine Mahoney at UVA. Professor Mahoney is the Director of Social Entrepreneurship at UVA, a program within the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. The focus of the class is applying the knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world problems that social entrepreneur partners of the class are facing. Students are working in small teams on challenges proposed by a set of local and international social entrepreneurs.
Impact Makers now is one of those social entrepreneur partners, having asked the class for assistance in several areas related to its business and social impact focus. The UVA class will be working with Impact Makers throughout the spring semester and report out its findings and recommendations later in the spring.
