Impact Makers hosted an event on September 10th unveiling the students’ murals.
Impact Makers is very proud to be sponsoring a unique social enterprise related to the upcoming UCI Road Championships event. A group of high school students who are part of the PROFITS program at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond are creating murals that reflect Richmond’s cycling history. The program will display the murals along the route of the cycling championships.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch published an article on the mural project. “Program teaches Richmond students the art of marketing” discusses the program in which Richmond high school students are taught financial, business, and marketing skills in addition to creativity.
PROFITS is a 12-week program, founded and coordinated by Dean Whitbeck. He drew his inspiration from the B Corp movement and Impact Makers’ social impact business model. PROFITS will contribute most of the money it raises to the Richmond Cycling Corp, the nonprofit that organizes a bike racing team for disadvantaged youth in Richmond. Impact Makers is one of four businesses sponsoring the artwork and there is an event on September 10th to unveil the murals at the Impact Makers office.
The UCI Road Championships is expected to draw 600,000 fans from September 19-27, 2015. Impact Makers is also a sponsor of the event.
