The June/July 2012 issue of Greater Richmond Grid magazine features a letter about becoming a B Corp and an article by Jim Ukrop about local B Corps and Impact Makers. It is wonderful to see our local B Corp community grow!
See the articles and read excerpts below.
From page 6, “Here We Go,” a letter from publishers Paul Spicer and Leslie Strickler:
[We’ve] taken a hard look at our business model… The fact is we’re really not in this business just to sell ads. Instead, we’re much more interested in new ways to blend what we love to do with the causes we care most about. We’re inspired by local innovators like Michael Pirron, a pioneer of the Benefit Corporation movement in Virginia and [CEO] of Impact Makers. Michael, an advocate for B Corporations, encourages businesses to meet higher standards of social and environmental performance.
We’re sold. Grid has applied to become a Certified B Corporation.
From page 31, “Doing Well By Doing Good,” by Jim Ukrop:
Firms like Impact Makers, a healthcare management and consulting company based in Richmond, are leading the way. This ownership-free company gives 100% of its profits to the free clinic systems in Virginia, which server 85,000 uninsured residents of the Commonwealth each year. To earn revenue, employees work with medical management companies and health plans to build disease management programs, as well as perform IT work, systems consulting and program audits.
Greater Richmond Grid profiles living, working and playing in the region with a focus on innovation, inspiration and individuals’ accomplishments in Richmond’s business, retail, arts and entertainment.
