Impact Makers Speaks at Virginia Social Entrepreneurship Networking Event

Several Impact Makers staff and Board members participated in Governor McDonnell’s Social Entrepreneurship Networking Event on September 12, 2013 at the University of Richmond. Board member Bob Mooney participated in a panel discussion on “What’s Next in Social Entrepreneurship?” and described how his organization, New Richmond Ventures, is helping other companies to make a difference in the community.  He also described Board member Stan Maupin’s latest venture, “Encore-preneurs,” which is working with professionals who are late in their careers but still entrepreneurs at heart.

From an audience of 90 people, Impact Makers President Carl Miller was selected as one of four speakers to discuss a topic of interest. Carl shared an overview of the B Corporation movement nationally and internationally. He fielded a number of questions from the audience about B Corps, his background, and why he chose to join Impact Makers (because of our social impact business model).

While the speakers spoke, a large screen displayed live tweets behind them on stage. Impact Makers team members Mike Ruiz and Matt Curtin tweeted quotes and updates from the event. Board members Jeff Cribbs and Bobby Thalhimer and team members Rodney Willett, Katy Dynes, Deidre Tompkins, and Cathie Brown were present.
