“We Give All Our Profits Away,” New Firm to Tell Students How and Why
Richmond, Va. (January 29, 2007) – A successful start-up consulting firm – Impact Makers – plans to tell students how it gives all its profits away and why this is the thing to do.
On Wednesday, January 31, at 7 p.m., the president and co-founder of Richmond-based Impact Makers, Steve Wilson, will take part in a panel discussion with students and other business leaders at Hermitage High School titled: Justice Makers in our Community. Wilson plans to speak with students about how Impact Makers defines justice and how his firm is showing businesses the way to make a greater impact on the community.
“We’re a not-for-profit firm competing in the for-profit marketplace,” said Wilson. “The difference between us and the competition is that we give all our profits to designated charities.”
Since opening in October 2006, the company has earned more than eight clients – with more on the way. The company specializes in Information Technology, Management, and Web Site consulting.
Wilson will explain to the panel how it’s a win-win-win situation for society. “Our clients get first-class service, our staff receives competitive salaries, and local charities get a sustainable, recurring income they didn’t have before,” added Wilson.
Impact Makers’ business model addresses the fact that up to about half a charity’s annual budget could be devoted to fundraising or grant writing. The donations that Impact Makers gives are intended to provide charities with a sustainable, recurring income to help them focus more on providing services.
“We hope to inspire other companies to adopt the same business model so they can have a greater impact on the Richmond community,” said Wilson. “We were delighted to be invited to this forum, and we hope to have a positive influence on students as they become lifelong learners and contributing members of society.”
